Rehlko Increasing Backup Power Momentum in Data Centers
As a global leader in data center power solutions, things are always on the move at Rehlko (formerly Kohler Energy). With a new name, a new industry achievement, and a freshly redesigned generator series, it can be tough to keep up with all of the exciting things going on around the company. Recently, Rehlko rising star Ben Rapp sat down for an interview to discuss the past, present, and future of Rehlko’s vision, business, and equipment. Here are five key quotes from the conversation to keep you up to date on all of the latest happenings from the boardroom to the engineer’s desk:
On the Company Renaming Process
“We're undergoing a rebrand right now because we're an independent entity. Kohler is now separate from the business, and we are embarking on a new, aggressive mission to continue to sell backup power generation sets to various customers. We're operating now under the Rehlko name but it's the same great work, same brand quality. It’s a new name but everything else is the same.”
On Rehlko’s Sustainable Design Initiatives
“We’ve created a program that allows all of our diesel gen sets to use renewable diesel, which is one of the biggest things right now for our customers to decrease their emissions without any operational or product change. This has been great for reducing costs associated with burning fuel and the need to exercise and test power systems. And then we’re also allowing programs now where you can reduce the amount of hours needed to exercise your gen set, a program called Conscious Care. There are a lot of great aspects to that program, reducing the emissions for our customers but then also reducing the costs associated with burning fuel and everything associated with having to exercise and test power systems.”
On Rehlko’s Approach to Innovation
“We're very focused on the here and now and what's capable. It's not enough to just throw out some big ideas; we need to look at the iterative steps that our customers can take and what we can do from a product standpoint to help them.”
On Rehlko’s New Environmental Product Declaration:
“This environmental product declaration, it's something that the team has been working on for a long time, and we’re really focused on helping customers like data centers improve their carbon accounting. We’re the first power systems manufacturer to have an environmental product declaration for our diesel gen sets, which are commonly used in data centers. This transparency is going to be the next step in helping provide a more sustainable economy and allows our customers to make informed decisions."
On the Possibilities of Hydrogen Fuel Cells
“Our focus is on what's that next step beyond conventional solutions. We can do so much with after-treatment systems, but the next frontier is really zero emissions at the point of use for our customers, which is where our hydrogen fuel cell technology comes in. So, I presented on that [at the Yotta Innovate Arena] and showcased our technology and this integrated system that allows our customers to use hydrogen fuel cells to provide power on demand.”
